It took two hours to clear Alamo at Miami airport. The DirectRoad fast-track system does not work – it never has in the ten years I have been trying to use it. There is no dedicated line for it, no dedicated staff, and nobody seems to either know or care about it. Plus, this year, Alamo presented me with a list at the counter of the many basic things (such as the changing) that the rental does not now cover. I would have liked to have known of these exclusions before booking, so that I could have shopped around for a rental company which is less of a potential rip-off. The long delay in the Alamo office was not just the lack of counter staff; this time I was allocated a car which the front gate refused to let me take it out because they said it wasn’t one of theirs. That took an hour to sort out, with some two dozen cars piled up behind me. There was only one exit gate in operation yet again. Alamo used to have the edge over Dollar, but standards have slipped recently.
