We booked a compact with a free upgrade but the only upgrade was to a PT cruiser, which was not only awful to drive, but my husband was too tall and his head brushed the interior roof! The good news was that we were able to change it the following day, but in future we would not chance a ‘free’ upgrade unless we could specify the car.
